2. I dislike the whole city/county thing
3. The whole riverfront downtown inaccessible or taken over by casinos
4. The Arch grounds are a total disappointment--what a waste of one of the most recognizable American landmarks
5. The restaurant scene in STL is mostly just Italian restaurants and pubs/sports bars
6. I think people don't consider themselves "Missourians," just "St. Louisians." However, I don't think there is much St. Louis pride here. Forget about Missouri pride.
7. I get annoyed with the whole "Where did you go to high school?" thing
8. Not many great vegetarian dining options
9. The downtown should be a bigger deal
10. Too big/too small...I can't make up my mind. I don't think St. Louis can, either.
11. I am actually fearful to drive on HWY 44 and 40 (especially 40- come on!) People don't know how to drive on the big highways! I do love driving on 55...those folks can do it.
*I totally agree with #1.
ReplyDelete*#7 annoys me too- but what bothers me more is that when I tell people I'm from Georgia, the next question is: "Then where did your husband go to high school?"
*#9- the downtown SHOULD be a bigger deal.
*#11 STL drivers make me CRAZY!!!!
The only other thing that I would add is that this time of year isn't the same without SEC football. I'm mourning that right now.
Love you, my fellow transplanted friend :) We'll make it around here!
Y'all should be grateful for your amazing town, I mean come on High school IS EVERYTHING.
ReplyDeleteCary-You have many things correct. I agree with you on most but STL does have some good places to eat that are not Italian. Some of my picks would be Jimmy's cafe on the Park, Vin de Set,Pi,Sydney Street Cafe,Osage cafe, Now the vegetarian options are limited i know.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of St. Louis Pride and I love STL. I also wish that downtown was a bigger deal like in so many other cities.
I hope st. Louis is growing on you. :)
I have to stick my nose in here and say that we have a TON of amazing restaurants here...vegetarian, I don't know...but some of my favorites are The Crossing in Clayton (so, I work there, but it's amazing!), Niche, Frazers, Mosiac, Copia, Sen, Eleven Eleven, Tani, and the list goes on and on. Seriously, STL has an amazing selection compared to so many other large cities I've visited...have fun trying them!!
ReplyDeleteGuys, I do not mean there are no good restaurants in STL. I just meant that there are way too many Italian restaurants and sports bars everywhere.
